Schools give free cellphones – air time that is
May 10th, 2010This idea comes from a Harvard economist. But Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein put the idea into action as the “Million” Motivation Campaign. This program gives free cellphone air time to high-performing students. It’s like a motivating thing for the kids to continue doing well in academics. About 2,500 students in seven middle schools are already involved. Free “minutes” and other rewards are expected if these kids achieve the academic goals set by their respective principals.
Hmm… would I have seen this as an incentive when I was a teen? Nah… I hated (and still do) phone conversations. But if they were talking about free movie passes or book coupons… oh geez!
I’m a geek… I know!
