Samsung Instinct – after the iPhone

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

instinct.jpgIn what has been hailed by many as the most decent competitor to the iPhone, Samsung’s Instict is sen by many as that indeed. Sporting the same features as the iPhone with it’s touch screen and innovative applications, this may truly be the best of the best competitor that would take a bite out of Apple’s share of the cellular phone market. The phone features a customizable home screen (totally void in all other phones in the same class) and many applications from Sprint that adds more function to the older and more expensive LG Prada – F480 which had a smaller screen. iPhone has created a whole distinct niche in the cellular phone industry with the release of the iPhone and cellular manufacturers have been trying to find a way of getting a bit of the market it has. Though initially a flop, the iPhone still managed to top most people’s want lists and continues to do so, just hope the newer version can keep its hold on the market share.

Nokia N97 coming our way

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Nokia’s got a great looking mobile phone coming out soon, and it’s called the N97, here’s a snippet of the review of it below:

So, what exactly do you get with the Nokia N97? The large touchscreen display is an obvious place to start – the 640 x 360 pixel display is the same resolution as the 5800, but the N97’s panel is larger at 3.5″. As with the 5800, this is a touch-sensitive widescreen unit, Nokia call this resolution “nHD” which we guess is “near HD”. It’s almost the same as the VGA resolution that we have seen in some rival devices, but the E90 manages a 4″ 800 x 352 non-touch screen, and the N810 is 800 x 400 pixels and 4.1″. Crucially though, the N97’s display does look to be better than the arch-rival Apple iPhone 3G. The N97 also lacks the TV tuner from the N96, and there’s no mention of an FM radio either.

T-Mobile Germany to Sell Unlocked iPhones

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Luck is not on T-Mobile Germanys side as a recent legal action instigated by Vodafone (T-Mobiles rival company), requires the former to sell its newly launched Apple iPhone units unlocked and without contracts. T-Mobile will still be offering the unlocked phones for 999EUR or $1482. Im sure it is understandable if T-Mobile tries to get the injunction overturned. Personally, I think many buyers will be pissed off to find out that unlocked iPhones may not function fully when used on other networks. Add that to the fact that T-Mobile has been selling the stuff for only 399EUR (with a 2 year contract though) only two days before.

Cell Phone with 5-inch Fold-Out Display

Polymer Vision, a Dutch Company has pioneered the world’s first cell phone that features a fold-out display for viewing email, podcasts, text documents, news, and blogs. This amazing gadget is called the “Readius.” Despite its many features, the Readius is actually the size of your usual mobile. Well, quite compact in fact considering that is one with a large 5-inch screen that is folded out from the body of the phone.

Great for people constantly on the go, the Readius is also able to update any podcast, blog content, or email account through the 3G mobile phone network. But personally, I would love it for its reader. Yeah, thats fun for a bookworm like me.

Unfortunately, the device is yet to hit the market. Its supposed to come out in mid-2008, and no word yet on the price.
