Android a threat to Microsoft

Friday, February 4th, 2011

Google’s entry into the mobile devices market via the Google Android operating system is a very clever idea. Google has managed to create a new OS that, although not directly competing with Microsoft’s top brands (Windows Mobile is really not getting the traction it wants for its proprietary mobile OS), is proving to be a threat to the top software company in the world. If you don’t believe it, then I’ll just point you to Google Docs. Now imagine the development of the Chrome OS that is currently being undertaken. Microsoft does have a reason to worry, Google’s come to play.

Google Maps on your Mobile with Bus Schedules

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

googlemapsmobile.jpgThe innovation of Google maps has been hailed for a long time and going mobile was one of the pioneering works they made available on your mobile. They have even added functionality that is very helpful for people who want to catch the next bus as gas prices continue to rise and more and more choose public transport for their needs. Knowing when and what buses are going through what routes is not only important but also nice for somebody who is visiting a new place or has just moved to a new location can be a life saver. Being on time is one of the best things bus schedules can do for you for it allows one to get to alternate stations should you miss the one you have to get onto.

Beware of iPhone unlocking programs

Apple has released a warning to iPhone users and buyers about downloading unauthorized iPhone unlocking programs that are rampantly available on the Internet. Company executives state that these programs can cause irreparable damage to the iPhone’s software. It’s better to wait for official software updates because any damage caused by said unauthorized programs is not covered by iPhone’s warranty. Besides, the new update will include exciting new features such as iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, not to mention that you only have to wait a few days for that one as it will be released later this week. So be warned, iPhone republic (catch phrase mine), and listen to your elders.

Sweden’s Mobycator is pretty chummy with cell phone company Nokia as it has recently launched a media publishing system for the Nokia S60 models. This system called Mobypal is a free application that allows customers to publish and store photos and videos on the Internet in a flash. Media can be uploaded to the server via WLAN, 3G or Edge at the original resolution without reducing the quality when published on the site. Another feature is a Mobypal Face book plug-in for users who want to categorize certain media as “blog” which will then be directed to the user’s Face book account after uploading. All of these free of charge!

Friday, May 1st, 2009

viral-ads.jpgThe next marketing trend, viral ads have turned advertising not only as informative tools but also as fun tools you enjoy while you get advertising. Viral ads are here to stay and it is hailed by many as the next mass marketing tool the world over. Almost everybody has a mobile and with them comes an untapped market for ad companies. Having ads sent to your mobile is as easy as an sms message and its costing next to nothing. Everybody from burger chains to just about any form and shape of industry, they’re jumping in.

“All viral means is that you’ve created a message that people want to share,” says Gregg Spiridellis, who founded animation and design studio JibJab with his brother. “If people want to pass it along, that’s what brand marketing is all about.”

An effective viral ad is something that people have fun with and pass along in the process, and that is what advertising is all about. In the age of the social internet, that is one of the advantages of haviong all your friends just a click away. You get to share and enjoy stuff online that would be impossible physically due to distance and time limitations. Viral ads are the way to go and more and more people would surely get onto the fad as time and technology speeds up the way people communicate over the internet and beyond.
